Slingshot Studio was tasked with creating abstract motion design segments based on the newly constructed Astellas headquarters building in Northbrook, IL. The main challenge of this project was to create a 3D model of the architecture and seamlessly transition to a live shot of the buildings. No 3D or architectural information was provided, so we needed to find a way to accurately depict the 3D buildings using available visuals. Google Earth was the answer. Utilizing satellite imagery as well as other photos, we were able to put together enough geometric information to recreate a visually accurate 3D model of the buildings.

Design Process

Astellas Google Earth Flyover

Google Earth was instrumental in providing the tools to create a 3D model of the Astellas HQ buildings. Google doesn’t allow 3D data to be downloaded, so measurements and angle information needed to be extracted from the satellite imagery.
